BACKROOMS
wtf
So I'd never heard of The Backrooms as a thing before this movie. I didn't know about the YouTube thing or the games or any of the meme stuff. I went into this movie knowing just as much as the first trailer told me, which wasn't much.
This movie was directed by a 20 year old kid named Kane Parsons, which is frankly a bad ass name. The Obsession dude, Curry Barker, is 25. Less of a badass name, but still a great movie. This is a different era of horror movies, and thank fucking god for that. I am in the business of horror, and lemme tell ya, bidness is boomin.

So Backrooms was trippy and weird and went for some pretty big swings by not going for really obvious swings. At no point when watching it did I know what was going to happen next. It follows no pattern I recognized from other horror movies. It doesn't really make any sense, but somehow, that's just fine. It doesn't matter. I couldn't tell you wtf that movie was about, because I think whatever it was about is so subjective and personal, that five people will probably have five different takes on it.

I can't tell you much more than I have. Not because of spoilers, but because it's just something you gotta watch to get. Me trying to explain it would just dilute the experience of watching it for you.
So I'll leave it at this: I'm very glad there's so many great horror filmmakers coming out of youtube. It's injecting a much needed flood of good art into genres that needed it. While Scream 7 is in the corner eating paste, Obsession and Backrooms are over here doing the heavy lifting.
